As Seen On TV! - EffectAble gets stuck in at BBC1’s DIY SOS: The Big Build in Enfield!

This prime time BBC1 show attracts 6million viewers and is the BBC’s flagship DIY show, so EffectAble are thrilled to have taken part in this exciting TV programme, which helped out truly deserving Eric Rivers and his family.

DIY SOS

EffectAble worked closely with Nick Knowles and the rest of the team at the BBC, to adapt and improve Eric’s home to help him cope with his degenerative illness.

Eric suffers from Motor Neurone disease, a deteriorating condition which damages the nervous system, leaving muscles weak and wasted. As he becomes increasingly disabled by this condition, Eric has been desperate for his family home in Enfield, Middlesex to be adapted to make it more comfortable and practical, and to provide extra space for his wife, Davina, and their three children Summer (13), Jodie(11) and Layla (5).

EffectAble, who specialise in a wide range of adaptations for the disabled and elderly, produced the CAD design drawings for a through floor lift and specially designed wetroom and advised on the disability aspects of the design and build throughout the entire project. The experienced team at EffectAble then carried out the works to re-configure the whole of the first floor of the property to incorporate the new wetroom and lift, also supplying all the finishes and specialist equipment, including a special toilet.

John Range, managing director at EffectAble said “We are excited and honoured to be involved in this project for the BBC and it was fantastic to see Eric and his family arrive back at their newly adapted home once the work was finished.” John continued “ At EffectAble, we take great pride in transforming the homes and the lives of people living with disability.”

The work on site, which also included re-configuring the ground floor and adding a dormer extension, was completed to the tightest of deadlines, to fit in with the programme’s aim of taking on really ambitious build projects to help families in real need.
